Bess

Bess was a horse that was rescued after a bombing raid in the Solomon Islands. Art Parker had lived all his life on a ranch and help with the rescue. Bess then lived at the Naval base at which Parker was stationed, where he trained her to do tricks. When Parker was due to be sent home he expressed his wishes for Bess to come with him, which were initially denied. Permission was eventually granted and they both went back to Montana. MGM approached Parker for Bess to appear in a series of films. Only one of these were made, 'Gallant Bess', which depicted a story loosely based on the real events in the Solomon Islands. Art Parker appeared in the film in a cameo.
