Born as Jeanne Phelps. Phelps was a dancer who appeared in more than 20 films in the 1940s. Jeanne won a swing dance competition in Hollywood in 1943 and the prize was membership of the Screen Actors' Guild and a part in Swing Fever. In 1963 she married the famed ballroom dancer Frank Veloz.
