Anny Ondra

Born: 15 May 1902, Tarnów, Galicia, Austria-Hungary [now Tarnów, Malopolskie, Poland]
Died: 28 February 1987, Hollenstedt, Lower Saxony, Germany

A silent screen actress who made a few English speaking talkies, but generally continued her career in Germany.

Blackmail (1929) as Alice White

This is considered to be Alfred Hitchcock's first sound film but the decision was made only after Anny Ondra had been cast. Unfortunately, Anny had a thick accent and so her dialogue was done 'live' by Joan Barry.
