John Aasen was of Norwegian descent. He was very tall, measuring 7 feet 2 and a half inches in height. Aasen was a performer with the Barnum and Bailey Circus around 1913. He signed a contract with Hal Roach Studios on 29th December 1922 and his big break in films came when he was given a main role in the 1923 Harold Lloyd feature 'Why Worry?'.
