Dorothy Davenport was from an acting background. Both of her parents were in the profession. Her father was Harry Davenport and her mother was Alice Davenport. Dorothy's film career as an actress was mainly in silent movies. In fact she only made two appearances in sound films. She turned her hand to writing, producing and directing, probably given rare respect in the industry because of her marriage to Wallace Reid, and she continued to use that respect long after her husband's death in 1923.
