Georgia Backus

Born: 13 October 1900, Columbus, Ohio, USA
Died: 7 September 1983, Sun City, California, USA

Georgia Backus started her acting career in stock companies on stage at the tender age of 14 and later acted in college. Not long after her graduation from college, whilst working in stock companies and on Broadway, Georgia began writing plays and short stories. This began a whole new side to her career as she was chosen to write for the burgeoning new art of the radio play. In 1939 she joined Orson Welles's Mercury Theatre repertory company on radio and it was this association that led her into films by 1940, appearing in the Welles films 'Citizen Kane (1941)' and 'The Magnificent Ambersons (1942)'.

Her career ended in 1953 as a result of the Hollywood blacklist following investigations into Communism in the motion picture industry by the House Un-American Activities Committee.
