Sam Buffington

Died: 15 May 1960, Los Angeles, California, USA

Sam Buffington was a TV actor who appeared in occasional films.  He was a supporting player and crammed over 40 appearances into his short career, which was cut short by his suicide at the age of 28. His balding appearance were that of a much older man, which got him parts as doctors, professors and sheriffs as well as bartenders. He was appearing in the Audie Murphy TV western series 'Whispering Smith' when he killed himself aged 28.

John Cliff

Born: 26 November 1918, Swainsboro, Georgia, USA
Died: 12 May 2001, Hayward, California, USA

John Cliff was born on a carnival. His father owned Clifford's Carolina Minstrels. For a time he worked on a soda pop stall and briefly trained as a prize fighter. At the end of the carnival era the family moved to California and John got a job as a labourer at a movie studio. John then learned to fly and intended to start his own flight instruction company, but the bombing of Pearl Harbour happened and the United States were dragged into the war. He joined up and flew missions, coming out of the war as a Captain. After the war John Cliff unsuccessfully tried to become an airline pilot and then turned his attentions to acting. His agent Mitch Hamilburg got him work on TV series like The Lone Ranger, Range Rider and Rin Tin Tin, usually as a heavy.  Eventually John got small roles in films. His film career was going well until it was interrupted by the Korean War. John was still in the reserves and was called up to fight. When he returned in 1953 he continued where he left off, playing heavies in westerns.

Virginia Gregg

Virginia Gregg was a radio, television and film actress. She appeared in over 200 productions. She is noted for providing the voice of Mrs Bates in Pyscho (with Jeanette Nolan and Paul Jasmin), Psycho II and Psycho III.

Mort Mills

Mort was a prolific film and television actor. He had recurring roles in Man Without a Gun, Perry Mason and Big Valley TV series and was featured in major films for Alfred Hitchcock and Orson Welles amongst others.
