Victor Kilian

Died: 11 March 1979, Los Angeles, California, USA

Was a vaudeville and stock company performer before being cast in the Broadway production 'Desire Under the Elms' directed by Walter Huston. Whilst in New York on stage he appeared in a few films before making the move to Hollywood in 1935. During a fight scene for the John Wayne film Reap the Wild Wind (1942) he was injured and lost the sight in one eye. He played supporting roles in many films until the 1950s when he was blacklisted during the McCarthy trials for his political leanings. He returned to the stage almost exclusively save for a handful of television roles. His Broadway career continued and he appeared in a total of 26 productions between 1926 and 1962. In the 1970s he returned to film and television. Victor Kilian was murdered in his apartment during a burglary.
