Ella McKenzie was from an acting family. She was the daughter of Robert McKenzie and Eva McKenzie. Her twin sister was Ida Mae McKenzie and her other sister was Fay McKenzie. Her first husband was Billy Gilbert, whom she married in 1937. They stayed together until his death in 1971.
