Mildred Boyd

Born: 2 October 1908, Kingston, Tennessee, USA
Died: 22 October 1999, Inglewood, California, USA

Mildred Boyd was a dancer and actress from the 1920s to the 1950s. In films she was mainly given small roles as a maid, as was the way with black actresses in Hollywood at the time, but Mildred also showed a real talent for acting in the 'race films' of the day. Off screen she danced on the stage all over Los Angeles, sometimes as part of the chorus line, and sometimes as part of an act called 'Mildred and Bow' with another female dancer. She also featured in a few 'Soundies' of the era, which were short musical films that were rather like pop videos.
