Joyce Carey

Joyce Carey was a respected actress of stage and screen who worked on both sides of the Atlantic. She was also an accomplished playwright. Joyce's parents, Gerald Lawrence and Dame Lilian Braithwaite, were both respected actors of the stage who made occasional film appearances. Although Joyce's success came independently, her long friendship with playwright and actor Noel Coward brought her roles in his plays and films. She accompanied Coward to Buckingham Palace to receive his knighthood in 1970 and was herself awarded an OBE in 1982.
