  1. Eric Porter was acknowledged as one of the greatest actors of the twentieth century. His performances were said to be "Masterpieces" . Michael Billington wrote that hearing Eric speak was like listening to a great opera singer performing a great aria . Sheridan Morley compared Eric's acting to seeing "Mount Rushmore Struck by lightening". It was Eric's modesty and shyness which prevented him for acknowledging such accolades and he enjoyed the simple life away from the bright lights of stardom and what he called "flashy fame ".He turned down an OBE and laughed at the thought of a knighthood. But none of this detracts from the fact that he was ,indeed, a great actor who should be remembered.
